On September 4, 2012, Dr. Charles Covert and his staff were pleased by a visit from Rakesh Jain, M.D., a board certified psychiatrist and psychiatric researcher in their Houston Galleria area psychiatric office. Dr. Jain updated us on his recent research projects and other topics:
- The use of Deplin (L-methylfolate) as a stand-alone treatment of schizophrenia as well as for depressive disorders.
- The use of Deplin at higher dosage levels – 30mg and 50mg.
- The efficacy of Intuniv, the antidepressant, titrated weekly from 1mg to 2mg to 3mg to 4mg for the treatment of tics.
- The apparent increased efficacy of Deplin in obese patients.
- The combination of stimulant medications, including Vyvanse and Ritalin, with various antidepressants, including Wellbutrin, Lexapro and Celexa, without kinetic interaction nor contraindication, in the treatment of ADHD with comorbid depression.
Dr. Covert, a Houston psychiatrist and forensic psychiatrist always enjoys Dr. Jain’s occasional visits and the opportunity to discuss recent psychiatric treatment advances.
